Coach vs. Psychotherapist:

Simply put (and as an overgeneralization) psychotherapy/counseling comes from a model that assumes there is something that need to be fixed, healed, or cured in the individual, relationship or family. Where as psychotherapy is often process-oriented, coaching is dynamic and action-oriented. Some forms of psychotherapy tend to focus on healing, understanding and processing the past to be happy and feel good in the present, while other forms focus on current thoughts, behaviors and feelings, e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Coaching assumes we are already "fine", we are not broken, and we already have all the resources we need.  It is less a "fix it" model and more of an enhancement or strategic model. Coaching encourages and guides you towards the outcomes you desire.
